The "Faculty of Languages, History and Geography" at Ankara University(Bruno Taut)

The building is designed by Taut as a faculty of languages, history and geography serve for the same purpose in the present day. The building extending along the boulevard in a north-south alignment and the building composed of two large blocks which are perpendicular to each other. Combination of two blocks composed of four storeys, high ground floor constructs the main block. Moreover, asymmetrical entrance with single corner column and rounded wall modernizes the appearance of the building. Furthermore, the various sheathing was used for the facades of the building. For example, the middle storey facade is in regular cut stone while the basement and first floor facades are in rusticated masonry. In addition to these, the wings are in a mixture of stone and brick. The back and side facades are plastered. The building reflects some characteristics of traditional Turkish art with stone and brick wall and the early ottoman period with turquoise tiles in the supports. Bruno Taut synthesize the Central European and Turkish architectural traditions. Moreover, Taut was responsible for the design of the various iron elements and a number of interesting details. To illustrate, the curve at the end of the protecting roof supported by a single column at the entrance and concave cornices are remarkable. The building appears in the significant boulevard of the Ankara and is used for the education purpose. These are the signs of the modernization of the Turkey.
